Description
The City of Mt. Pleasant is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Accountant to join its Finance Department. Under the general supervision of the Director of Finance, the Accountant performs a broad range of professional accounting functions supporting the City's financial operations, budgeting activities, grant administration, financial reporting, and annual audit processes.
This position plays an important role in maintaining accurate and reliable financial records and ensuring compliance with applicable governmental accounting standards, laws, regulations, contracts, and City policies. The Accountant will work with multiple funds and financial activities and will exercise independent judgment in analyzing financial information, identifying discrepancies, resolving issues, and recommending improvements.
The ideal candidate will have strong governmental accounting knowledge, excellent attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.
Essential Job Functions include General Accounting & Financial Records, Accounts Payable and Receivable, reconciliation and financial analysis, financial reporting, budget support, grants and project accounting, annual audit and year end financial activities, fixed assets, process improvement, and professional development.

Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a closely related field and at least two years of professional accounting experience, preferably in a governmental or public agency setting, is required.
Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered where appropriate.
