Description
The JUNIOR ACCOUNTANT maintains and supports the General Ledger; performs reconciliation duties; prepares and maintains financial records; supports monthly and annual financial reporting; assists with budgeting tasks; provides technical and clerical support; assists with department special projects; supports other finance functions as needed; and performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of basic and intermediate accounting principles, procedures, and methods
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
Knowledge of general ledger structure and financial reporting
Knowledge of financial practices. Knowledge of intermediate accounting and statistical computations.
Knowledge of personal computers, spreadsheets, and word processing software programs
Ability to establish and apply accounting principles and methods to transactions and ledgers.
Ability to reconcile financial data and detect discrepancies
Ability to compile and analyze information from ledgers, journals, and financial statements.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to exhibit strong attention to detail Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access software
Ability to design and implement spreadsheets by using software programs, including using formula functions.
Ability to compile and maintain information systems, reports, records, and business correspondence.
Ability to understand and perform intermediate accounting computations.
Ability to understand and perform intermediate statistical computations.
Ability to prioritize work assignments
Ability to adapt to changing workloads
Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing
Ability to work independently
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to coordinate work with others
Minimum Qualifications
Associate degree in Accounting or a related field
Two (2) years of experience in accounting or finance-related work
Experience with general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, or reconciliation functions
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
Prior governmental accounting or finance experience
Special Requirements:
