ATA Services, Inc., is looking for a Expense Accountant for our client Minnesota's Department of Human Services. Please review the details listed below:
The Expense Accountant plays an essential role in supporting the financial health and operational success of the agency. This position is responsible for ensuring expenses are accurately recorded, monitored, and analyzed so program teams have the reliable information they need to serve Minnesota communities.
Core Responsibilities:
- Track and monitor expenditures, commitments, and encumbrances for assigned divisions, programs, or grants.
- Review spending patterns, burn rates, and budget variances, and provide clear explanations or recommended adjustments.
- Prepare and process expense-related accounting entries, including transfers, adjustments, and corrections.
- Ensure transactions are properly coded, documented, and aligned with accounting standards and agency policies.
- Reconcile accounts and follow up on discrepancies to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Maintain supporting documentation that meets internal control requirements and audit readiness standards.
- Contribute to monthly and quarterly expense forecasts, helping leadership understand the financial outlook.
- Create and maintain reports that translate financial information into clear, actionable insights.
- Assist in the preparation of data for annual budget planning or internal reviews.
- Assist with internal or external audit requests by preparing materials and ensuring documentation accuracy.
- Promote consistent adherence to financial guidelines throughout assigned program areas.
Minimum Qualifications
• Finance degree or equivalent, 5+ years in a professional setting overseeing complex budgets.
• Masters preferred.
• Government Experience (city/county/state/federal) preferred
